Allocation of Budget for Reconstruction and Repair of Post Offices

Will the Minister of Finance be pleased to state:
a. Whether the Government has allocated or is considering to allocate a separate budget for reconstruction and repair of Post Offices along with development of their basic infrastructure;
b. whether the Government has set up any special fund/scheme for the repair of such post office buildings which are very old or in a dilapidated condition;
c. if so, the details thereof;
d. whether the Government has received any proposals from the Department of Post regarding repair of such old and dilapidated buildings and the requirement of bore wells, compound wall and generators etc. for safety purpose; and
e. if so, the details thereof and the action taken by the Government in this regard?
ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE
(SHRI PANKAJ CHAUDHARY)
(a): Government allocates budget under ‘Estates Management’ which includes outlay for restoration and renovation of the existing old Postal buildings for efficient postal operations with optimal utilization of assets.
(b): The Estates Management Scheme (EMS) under which support is provided for restoration and renovation of the existing old Postal buildings is a continuing Central Sector Scheme of Department of Posts.
(c): The Estates Management Scheme (EMS) had total outlay of about ₹474 crore over a period of 5 years i.e. 2021-22 to 2025-26. Actual expenditure under this scheme upto FY 2024-25 is about ₹ 353 crore.
(d) & (e): Public Investment Board (PIB) Memorandum at draft stage has been received from the Department of Posts for Postal Logistics Infrastructure Project which includes components related to upgradation of Post Office counters and processing areas.
