India Post Partners with SBI Mutual Fund to Streamline KYC Verification Services for Investors across India

India Post Partners with SBI Mutual Fund to Streamline KYC Verification Services for Investors across India

India Post Partners with SBI Mutual Fund to Streamline KYC Verification Services for Investors across India

Posted On: 29 APR 2025 5:41PM by PIB Delhi

In a landmark initiative aimed at simplifying the customer on-boarding process for mutual fund investors, the Department of Posts (DoP) has entered into a strategic partnership with SBI Funds Management Limited (SBIFM), a prominent asset management company. The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), will leverage India Post’s extensive network to provide doorstep KYC verification services for investors of SBI Mutual Fund. This initiative aims to streamline the KYC process, ensuring convenience, security, and regulatory compliance for investors across India.

The MoU was officially signed between the Ms. Manisha Bansal Badal, General Manager, Business Development Directorate, Department of Posts, and Sh. Munish Sabharwal, Senior Vice President, SBI Funds Management Limited, in a ceremony held at Dak Bhawan, New Delhi.

India Post, with its vast network of over 1.64 lakh post offices spread across even the remotest corners of the country, is uniquely positioned to support initiatives aimed at financial inclusion. With post offices in urban areas, rural towns, remote villages, and even areas with limited access to other financial services, the Department of Posts has the unparalleled reach to assist with customer service requirements, including KYC verification.

As part of the MoU, India Post will facilitate the completion of KYC formalities for SBI Mutual Fund investors by collecting the necessary forms and documents from investors across the country. The KYC documents will be collected by India Post’s trained personnel, ensuring a high level of security, accuracy, and privacy in the process.

By leveraging India Post’s nationwide network, this partnership will ensure that investors, regardless of their location, can easily complete the KYC process. This will be particularly beneficial for investors in rural, underserved, and far-flung areas who often face challenges in accessing traditional financial services. The door-to-door KYC service will offer immense convenience to investors, allowing them to complete the entire process from the comfort of their homes. This is particularly advantageous for senior citizens, individuals with mobility challenges, or those living in remote areas, where access to physical banking services is limited.

This collaboration directly supports the Government of India’s Jan Nivesh initiative, which aims to increase financial inclusion and encourage more people to participate in India’s capital markets. It also contributes to the ongoing efforts to digitize financial services under the Digital India program. With India Post’s trusted network, this partnership will help demystify the KYC process and provide a gateway for individuals, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas, to engage with investment products such as mutual funds. By offering KYC services at the doorstep, the initiative also plays a crucial role in educating the masses about the importance of compliance with financial regulations.

India Post’s role in facilitating KYC verifications has been demonstrated through its successful collaboration with other mutual fund companies, including UTI Mutual Fund and SUUTI (Securities and Exchange Board of India’s public fund). In these partnerships, India Post successfully handled over 5 lakh KYC verifications in a short period, showcasing its ability to manage high-volume operations with precision, security, and efficiency.

India Post is actively exploring new avenues for collaboration with both public and private sector organizations in the financial services sector. With its strong infrastructure, trained workforce, and credibility, India Post is well-positioned to play a larger role in promoting financial literacy, digital on-boarding, and investment participation among the Indian populace.

Bringing Healthcare Closer for India's Elderly: A Call to Action

Bringing Healthcare Closer for India's Elderly: A Call to Action

Introduction
India is on the cusp of a demographic transformation. Our cities bustle with progress, our villages hum with stories of resilience. Yet hidden among this vibrancy are millions of elderly Indians whose footsteps grow slower, whose journeys for basic healthcare grow longer, and whose cries often fade unheard into the distance. As affluence rises, so does an invisible tragedy — the fading accessibility of healthcare for our senior citizens. They built this nation with their sweat and dreams; it is now our moral duty to bring healthcare closer to them.
India’s Aging Population – A Silent Revolution
They were the dreamers of independent India, the workers of its first factories, the builders of its bustling cities. Today, they are the grandparents watching from their porches, their hands weathered by time, their hearts full of untold stories. By 2047, nearly 21% of India will be above the age of 60, a silent revolution in numbers. As children once depended on elders, now elders depend on a system that is often too far, too expensive, and too indifferent.
The silver generation deserves golden years — filled with dignity, care, and respect. Yet, long travel distances for medical care turn every ailment into a battle, every visit into a burden.
Barriers to Healthcare Access for Elders
Imagine an elderly woman in a rural village, her knees aching, having to board a crowded bus and travel 40 km just to get her blood pressure checked. Imagine an old man, his vision dimmed with cataracts, missing his diabetic check-ups because he cannot afford transportation.
Physical distance, financial burdens, and emotional exhaustion create walls higher than any bureaucracy. Even government schemes like Ayushman Bharat, while noble, often fail to bridge these physical divides. Rural elders suffer more, low-income seniors are trapped further, and elderly women bear a disproportionate share of this silent suffering.
The High Cost of Inaccessibility
Every untreated illness weakens not just a body but a spirit. A missed doctor’s appointment becomes a lost chance at life. Families are torn between earning their livelihood and ferrying their aging parents to distant clinics. The nation, too, pays a price — in lost productivity, in the economic cost of advanced untreated diseases, and, worst of all, in the silent erosion of its humanity.
Longer life spans are a blessing only when paired with accessible, compassionate care. Otherwise, longevity without dignity becomes a prolonged struggle.
Building a Senior-Centric Healthcare System
What if no elder had to travel more than 10 km for care? What if villages had mobile medical vans rolling in like messengers of hope? What if home-based care became as common as house visits from loved ones?
A new vision is possible:
- Mobile clinics bringing specialists to remote areas
- Digital health centers where a video call saves a 40-km journey
- Primary healthcare services built into community hubs
- Home-based doctors who honor the aging by coming to their doorsteps
This is not just infrastructure. This is compassion made concrete.
The Role of Community and Social Support
Healthcare is not just about hospitals and medicines. It’s about neighbors who check in, volunteers who ferry seniors to clinics, young people who sit with them at appointments.
Community-based transport services, elder care groups, helplines for medical emergencies — these are the hands that lift when legs falter. Inclusive social spaces, mental health programs, and senior wellness centers will heal not just bodies, but also lonely hearts.
Policy Roadmap for India
If a nation is judged by how it treats its weakest, then let India be a nation where no elder feels abandoned.
Recommendations:
- Healthcare within a 10-km radius for every citizen above 60
- Mandatory mobile medical units in rural and semi-urban regions
- Integrated geriatric care training for healthcare workers
- Financial incentives for setting up elder-friendly clinics
- Stronger mental health and wellness programs for seniors
Policies must not merely be words on paper but living promises kept in every village, every town, every home.
Conclusion: Health for Elders, Wealth for the Nation
Elders are living libraries, their minds rich with wisdom and history. When we deny them healthcare, we do not just lose lives — we lose our connection to our roots.
Healthcare for elders is not charity; it is a sacred duty. It is not an economic burden; it is an investment in gratitude, in history, in humanity.
It is time to move beyond token gestures and distant promises. It is time to bring healthcare home, to honor every gray hair, every wrinkled smile, every trembling step.
Because a nation that walks with its elders walks farther, stronger, and prouder into its future.

Hon’ble Minister of Communications Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia announces the publication of Gazette Notification for 'Gyan Post' to Enable Affordable Delivery of Books and Study Materials through Post Offices

“Gyan Post serves as a vital delivery mechanism for ensuring that education reaches every individual” – Shri. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia

Posted On: 28 APR 2025 7:36PM by PIB Delhi

Hon’ble Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Regions, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia announced the publication of the gazette notification regarding 'Gyan Post', a new service to make the delivery of educational, social, cultural, and religious books more affordable across India. This service reflects India Post’s continued commitment to supporting education and reaching learners in every part of the country.

Education is the foundation of a stronger future, but access to learning resources should not depend on geography or affordability. 'Gyan Post' has been created with this belief at its heart to ensure that a textbook, a preparation guide, or a cultural book can travel the last mile, reaching even the most remote village or town.

Speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Regions, Shri Jyotiraditya M Scindia said, “Under the new education policy and syllabus, "Gyan Post" serves as a vital delivery mechanism for ensuring that education reaches every individual.”

Designed to support learning and knowledge-sharing, 'Gyan Post' offers affordable options for sending books and printed educational materials through India’s vast postal network. The service is priced to encourage wider access.

Books and printed educational materials sent under 'Gyan Post' will be trackable and transported through surface mode to ensure cost-effective delivery. The packages can be sent at highly affordable rates, starting from only ₹20 for packets up to 300 grams and maximum of  ₹100 for packets up to 5 kilograms (taxes as applicable).

Only non-commercial, educational material will be eligible under 'Gyan Post'. Publications of a business or commercial nature, or containing advertisements (other than incidental announcements or book lists), will not be accepted under this service. Each book must carry the name of the printer or publisher as per prescribed conditions.

Through 'Gyan Post', India Post reaffirms its enduring commitment to public service, helping bridge the education gap, one book at a time. By making learning resources more accessible and affordable, India Post continues its legacy of empowering individuals and communities across the nation.

The 'Gyan Post' service will be operational at all departmental post offices across India from 1st May, 2025. Further details are available at the nearest post office or online at www.indiapost.gov.in.

CGHS rules revamped: Old websites shut down, major service changes for beneficiaries from April 28

CGHS rules revamped: Old websites shut down, major service changes for beneficiaries from April 28

CGHS rule changes: A major digital change is happening in the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS). From 28 April 2025, the new digital platform and Health Management Information System (HMIS) of CGHS will be fully launched. With this, the old websites http://www.cghs.gov.in and http://www.cghs.nic.in will be closed. Now all the services will be available through the new portal http://www.cghs.mohfw.gov.in, according to a Health Ministry circular.

Apart from this, a new CGHS mobile app has also been launched for Android and iOS users, which has better interface and digital services.

To implement this change smoothly, all the services of CGHS – including health centers – are closed for one day on 26 April 2025 (Saturday). During this time the work of data migration and system switching will be completed, so that the new system can start without any interruption.

What are the new changes?

Now CGHS beneficiaries will be identified through PAN number. This will eliminate the need to re-check documents and make it easier to confirm eligibility.

Contribution payments will now be directly linked to the Bharat Kosh portal. This means that there will be no need to make manual entries, which will also reduce problems related to errors and refunds.

In the new system, on applying for a card, first full information about eligibility and contribution amount will be given. Only after that payment will have to be made. This will eliminate the problem of depositing money without information.

Facilities like card transfer, adding dependents or other changes in the card will now be available completely online. This will save time and people will not have to visit the office.

You will now keep getting updates through SMS and email at every step of the process of every application. This will increase transparency and reduce the need to follow-up at any stage.

Keeping cyber security in mind, all existing users will have to reset their password when logging in for the first time. This step has been taken to protect the system from threats like hacking.

Apart from this, now the departments will be identified by their DDO (Drawing and Disbursing Officer) and PAO (Pay and Accounts Officer) codes, as recorded in the salary slips of the employees. This will also strengthen the backend records of the officers.

Why was this change necessary?

The old software of CGHS was being used continuously since 2005. But now it had become technically very old and had become weak in terms of new IT standards and cyber security. With the arrival of the new HMIS system, CGHS services will not only be available faster, but they will also be more secure, transparent and user-friendly. This will give a better experience to millions of beneficiaries and the operation of government health services will be even more effective.
