GPO in Parry's to double up as passport centre from December

CHENNAI: The Chennai GPO on Rajaji Salai in Parry's, a heritage structure, will house the city's first Post Office Passport Seva Kendra from December. It will facilitate the scrutiny and processing of passport applications and is likely to cater largely to North Chennai.

"About 50 applications will be processed every day at the facility," said R Anand, postmaster general, Chennai City Region. Passport applications are currently processed at Passport Seva Kendras of the Regional Passport Office, Chennai, at Aminjikarai, Saligramam and Tambaram.

Anand said the head post offices at Arani in Tiruvannamalai, Ranipet in Vellore, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur towns have also been finalised as centres that will offer passport services under the Chennai City Region.

Passport Seva Kendra services are available in 12 post offices across the state with 675 applications being scrutinised every day.
