Portal caters to those taking SSLC and other competitive exams

While there are several options available in the market for students in the form of guides and other reference material, a collective of teachers from government and government-aided schools in the State has been voluntarily pooling its resources to provide accessible, free online course-related content to students.

Way2Score — which started off as an initiative to crowd source content from a few school teachers — has now expanded and has over 200 teachers as active authors.

The online web portal, which was started sometime around 2015, picked up momentum last year and has resources catering to students taking up their SSLC and class XI and XII public examinations as well as several competitive exams.

“Instead of putting together unique questions and sample tests prepared by teachers as a booklet, a web portal proved to be more accessible. Apart from school students, we wanted the portal to be a place where people attempting the Group 1 and Group II exams, Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) exam and Teachers Eligibility Test (TET), among other exams also find resources,” said R. Asir Julius, coordinator of the portal.

Bridging the gap

Mr. Julius says that with ample resources available with teachers, the portal started off as an idea to bridge the gap between them and students across the State.

Teachers who are willing to share resources are given access to the portal.

“I used to prepare a lot of vocabulary and grammar exercises for my students and thought that it would help more people if shared online,” said N. Kalpana, a teacher from Tiruppur.

He has been a regular contributor to Way2Score.

The questions and exercises are submitted by the teachers and are then made available as short 10-mark tests under the relevant topic.

The idea was to keep the tests short, so that students could take up multiple tests and assess their knowledge.

The teachers who have been contributing to the portal have also been sensitizing more of their colleagues to participate and submit material for the portal.

“Next, we are working on incorporating Artificial Intelligence (AI), where data on the performance of the students is gathered and used to customise and give them tests accordingly,” Mr. Julius said.
