New Delhi, Aug 23: Aadhaar card will now be made mandatory for open school examinations to make sure that proxy candidates don’t appear on other’s behalf. After an approval from the HRD ministry, the National Institute of Open Learning (NIOS) decided to make Aadhaar card mandatory for students appearing for the next examination.
“During the exams held in March, the inspection teams had found proxy candidates who were appearing on other students’ behalf. To check this practice, Aadhaar has been made mandatory. There will also be scanner machines at examination centres and only those students whose thumb prints match with the existing data be allowed to give exams,” the official said, reported Hindustan Times
The NIOS has also decided that the schools where the CCTV facility is available will be made examination centres. “This has been decided to ensure that videography of the entire examination process is possible and the footage can be checked in future if need be,” the official added.
In March, Aadhaar cards were made mandatory for applying for a driving license and for the renewal of existing ones, to prevent the issuance of multiple licenses under one name, and Aadhaar-based re-verification for all existing subscribers of mobile phone services..
