New Delhi, January 26: According to the shocking results of the India Today survey judging the mood of the nation, it has become clear that if the general elections were to be held today, there would be no alternative to the incumbent Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
The polls were held at a national level and aimed to assess whether the governing BJP government is facing a strong Opposition. According to the results of the survey, however, that the strongest leader who can provide any competition to Narendra Modi, is Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi who has managed to gather the support of 28m percent pollers.
Apart from Rahul Gandhi, other leaders who have managed to make a dent in the list of people who can compete with Modi include JD(U)  leader Nitish Kumar with 13 percent support, Congress President Sonia Gandhi with 9 percent support, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP Supremo Arvind Kejriwal with just 7 percent support and Priyanka Gandhi with a mere 3 percent.
The poll also looked at how a third front, an essential coalition of parties along the lines of the ruling Mahagathbandan in Bihar, would fare against the Modi government if the polls were to be held today. The results of that do not seem to favour the Opposition much either.
Much to their dismay, even a coalition of parties would not manage to fare any better against the ruling BJP. The report showed that, depending on who the front would be led by, the group would manage to garner anywhere between 11 to 6 percent. If the coalition forces were to be led by Mulayam Singh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, they would garner just 6 percent of the vote share.
Other leaders who could lead the front include BSP Supremo Mayawati with 6 percent support, Mamata Banerjee with 8 percent support, Nitish Kumar with 10 percent support and Arvind Kejriwal with a 11 percent support base.
The poll also surveyed the best and worst performing Prime Ministers thus far with Indira Gandhi gaining an 18 percent approval rating and her father, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru garnering 9 percent support.
