Q1. What is Gramin Dak Sevak? or What is India Post GDS?Ans: Gramin Dak Sevak(GDS) is an integral part of the Postal Department. They are working in the rural postal area. As per Gramin Dak Sevak Engagement Rule 2011, GDSs are a TRCA (Time Related Continuity Allowance) base employee. they are working for a maximum of 5 hours to serve the India Post.

Q2. What is the salary of Gramin Dak Sevak?Ans: Gramin Dak Sevak Salary is not a Salary, it’s called Time Related Continuity Allowance(TRCA). After GDS Pay Committee Implementation GDSs are provided 4 hours and hours of duty. the TRCA related Payment is as follow;

4 Hours 12,000/- 14,500/-
5 Hours 10,000/- 12,000/-
The above category-wise salary is the minimum basic salary of a Gramin Dak Sevak. GDS should be paid Dearness Allowance(DA), Anual Increment and others admissible allowance time to time with their TRCA. The Minimum basic pay will be applicable for fresher GDS and Maximum is for senior GDS.

Ans. The Job Profile of Branch Post Master will include managing affairs of GDS Branch Post Office, India Posts Payments Bank (IPPB) and ensuring uninterrupted counter operation during the prescribed working hours using the handheld device/Smartphone supplied by the Department.

The overall management of postal facilities, maintenance of records, upkeep of handheld device, ensuring online transactions, and marketing of Postal/Rural Postal Life Insurance(PLI/RPLI), India Post Payments Bank services and procurement of business in the villages or Gram Panchayats within the jurisdiction of the Branch Post Office should rest on the shoulders of Branch Postmasters.

However, the work performed for IPPB will not be included in the calculation of TRCA, since the same is being done on an incentive basis. Branch Postmaster will be the team leader of the GDS Post Office and overall responsibility of smooth and timely functioning of Post Office including mail conveyance and mail delivery.

The branch postmaster might be assisted by Assistant Branch Post Master of the same GDS Post Office. BPM will be required to do combined duties of ABPMs as and when ordered. He will also be required to do marketing, organizing melas, business procurement and any other work assigned by IPO/ASPO/SPOs/SSPOs/SRM/SSRM etc. In some of the Branch Post Offices, the BPM has to do all the work of BPM and ABPM.

Q7. What is the work of Assistant Branch Postmaster?

The Job Profile of Assistant Branch Post Master will include all functions of the sale of stamps/stationery, conveyance and delivery of mail at doorstep deposits/payments/other transactions under IPPB, assisting Branch Postmasters in counter duties using the handheld device/Smartphone supplied by the Department.
However, he works performed for IPPB will not be included in the calculation of TRCA. Since the same is being done on an incentive basis. He will also be required to do marketing, organizing melas, business procurement and any other work assigned by the Branch Postmaster or IPO/ASPO/SPOs/SSPOs/SRM/SSRM etc. ABPMs will also be required to do Combined Duty of BPMs as and when ordered.

Q7. What is the work of Dak Sevak?

The work of Dak Sevaks will include all functions of viz sale of stamps and stationery, conveyance and delivery of mail and any other duties assigned by Postmaster/Sub Postmaster. Their work is also including IPPB work in the Departmental Post Offices/RMS.

However, the work performed for IPPB will not be included in the calculation of TRCA, since the same is being done on an incentive basis. He may also have to assist Post Masters/Sub Postmasters in managing the smooth functioning of Departmental Post Offices and do marketing, business procurement or any other work assigned by the Post Master or IPO/ASPO/SPOs/SSPOs/SRIflSSRM etc.

Q8. Is there any promotion in GDS BPM?

Yes!, not only GDS BPM all kind of Gramin Dak Sevak; Branch Post Master(BPM), Assistant ranch Postmaster(ABPM) and Dak Sevak(DS) can get promotion through the departmental exam. GDSs can get promotion to MTS, Postman/Mail Guard and Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant.

To get promotion to a higher post or rank GDS needs some eligibility like age, service experience and Educational Qualification.
